Envelopes (2007), a trio for clarinet, bassoon and percussion; in three movements

Dur: 15:00

I. Please, forward!
II “To whom it may concern…”
III. Return to Sender

PDF SampleThe title of the piece refers to a couple of elements, thus a sort of double entendre. There are volume envelopes of varying kinds on multiple levels, in some cases long crescendoing sounds emanating from sfp beginnings, and in others an entire movement showing such growth and retraction. The title also relates to the form of the movements in some cases, or even the character which the performers should try to create.

This is a challenging and substantial piece for an unusual combination of instruments. It requires one percussionist playing the following instruments: vibraphone, medium suspended cymbal, five woodblocks, tambourine, bongos and four toms.
